The cost of a light bulb may not exceed 5 euros, but if we neglect to replace it and face the “letter of the law”, we will almost certainly pay dearly for our negligence. This is due to the fact that the SDA provides for more or less severe penalties for the movement of vehicles without the included lighting equipment, which are not limited to fines, but reach the deprivation of rights.
The set of rules includes 10 different violations related to the car’s lighting system and provides for fines of up to 150 euros. In particular, the highest concerns the movement of a car with non-working (for example, when stopping at an intersection with a traffic light) side lights, brake lights, flashing turn signals and high and low beam headlights.
Violators who drive a vehicle that does not have an installed working license plate lighting system, fog lamps and reversing lamps are subject to a fine of 40 euros. In other cases, the fine is accompanied by some kind of administrative penalty and deprivation of a driver’s license.
Thus, if a malfunction is found on your car related to signal lamps (designed to report a car stopping at an intersection with a traffic light), reversing lights and “turn signals”, then in addition to the fine, your driver’s license will be withdrawn for ten days. It is worth knowing that the description of “unintentional” traffic rules also includes cases when the lighting system works, but not as expected. In practice, this means that the wrong mode of operation or even the “wrong” color of the lighting system and unadjusted headlights (perhaps the most typical examples) allow the traffic police to take measures against you as a violator of traffic rules and impose monetary and administrative penalties.
