Carefully! 4-day heat wave looms

Very soon, heat will hit Greece, from which the thermometer will “jump” up to 42 ° C.

Fortunately, according to weather forecasts, it will last four days. At least that’s what the famous meteorologist Yannis Kallianos promises. He warns that the heat wave will come on Thursday, August 18 and will continue through Sunday, August 21, inclusive. In his Facebook post, he detailed what awaits the people of Greece:

“A heat wave is coming, short in duration but high in intensity. Heat waves in the summer months are characterized mainly by three features: duration, frequency and intensity.

From tomorrow, the temperature will start to rise gradually, and from Thursday to Sunday we will experience a heat wave. Based on the available data, it will last 4 days if nothing changes in the next launches of predictive models.

In the coming Friday and Saturday, the days that are likely to be the most difficult days, the maximum values ​​of the mercury column in the country will reach 40-41°C, in places 42°C. Areas that will be most affected by high temperatures:

the mainland of the country;

Thessaly;

central Greece (including Attica);

central Evia;

Peloponnese;

southeastern Aegean.

In most parts of Greece, the winds will weaken, and this will cause temperatures to rise. Only in the Dodecanese, the force of the northwest wind will sometimes reach 7-8 points on the Beaufort scale.

Along with the heat will come dust from Africa: to the west of Greece on Thursday, and in the following days to other parts of the country. Its concentration will be moderate, but in some places it will be possible to observe haze.

Tuesday 16 August 35°C.

Wednesday 17 August 36-37°C.

Thursday 18 August 38-39°C.

Friday 19 August 40-41°C.

Saturday 20 August 40-41°C.

On Sunday, August 21, a decrease of 3-4°C.

Over the next few days, the warmest water will be in the Ionian region, Thermaikos and Halkidiki, in the Dodecanese – the temperature will reach 28°C. In other regions, the water temperature will not exceed 25-26°C. Only in the northeastern part of the Aegean, from Lesvos and further south to Samos-Ikaria, the sea will be cool – 21-22 ° C.
