Stage collapses at festival in Spain, dozens injured and dead

One person has died and dozens injured after a stage collapse at the Medusa music festival near the city of Valencia in Spain.

Part of the stage collapsed under the pressure of the strongest wind, reports Reuters. The six-day event took place in the city of Cullera, south of Valencia. Three of the victims had serious injuries, while 14 more people were admitted with lighter injuries, according to emergency services.

In total, forty victims turned for help. A 28-year-old visitor became a victim of bad weather, he died before the arrival of doctors. A statement from the festival organizers on Facebook reads:

“We are extremely saddened by what happened this morning. At around 4:00 am, unexpected strong winds destroyed certain areas of the festival, forcing the management to make an immediate decision to vacate the concert area to ensure the safety of visitors, workers and artists.”

Organizers also noted that extreme weather conditions have damaged various infrastructure at the festival site. The decision was made to suspend the event.

The national meteorological agency AEMET said that “strong gusts of wind and a sudden increase in temperature” were recorded at night, at the airport of Alicante in the Valencia region, wind gusts reached 82 km / h.

“Medusa” is considered one of the most significant festivals that are held annually in Valencia, and attracts about 300,000 visitors.
