A serious incident occurred on the island of Andros, when a minor engaged in underwater fishing was hit by a boat rushing right at him.
The Greek Air Force was involved in the rescue of the victim, since the local hospital, where the pilot of the boat took him, could not provide the necessary medical assistance to the guy.
According to preliminary information, a 15-year-old teenager was diagnosed with a contusion of the upper limb (arm and shoulder). He had an operation.
As the publication later reported iefimerida.grthe pilot was driving the boat while intoxicated.
Describing what happened, a 20-year-old friend of the 15-year-old Thodoris told the STAR channel how it all happened: “We were at a distance of 15-20 meters from the shore and were fishing. The only thing that occurred to me after we got under the boat was at what point the propeller would “get us” and it would all be over. It was a total nightmare.”
The young man continued his story: “We were engaged in underwater fishing. We had a buoy with us attached to Thodoris at a distance of 10 meters. And while I was putting the catch in the tank and was distracted, I suddenly heard the engine of an inflatable boat and raised my head. I saw that the boat was rushing straight at us and was at a distance of 30 to 40 meters.
“I started yelling at the top of my lungs and waving my right arm in the air, but apparently the helmsman didn’t notice us. The boat continued to move straight towards us, without changing course and without slowing down … Then I grabbed Thodoris with my left hand, who had not yet figured out what was the matter, and pulled him with all my might to the right so that we could avoid the worst. But, apparently, the screw still touched my friend.
According to the guy, the next few minutes were nightmarish, as he tried to keep the bleeding Thodoris afloat, and at the same time signal the pilot to help him bring the victim to land.
All that Thodoris managed to say in the first minutes after the accident was: “Why did they cut off my hand?”
When the teenager arrived at the CAT hospital after a major operation on Sunday evening, he reportedly told doctors, “I didn’t quite understand what happened. My friend and I were at sea when suddenly a boat passed us. My friend reacted and pulled me out.”
The information says that doctors consider the next 24 hours critical for the progression of injuries to the hand of a 15-year-old after undergoing surgery.
