Will a Russian military base appear in the very center of Europe?

“The appearance of a Russian military base in Serbia is the sovereign affair of Belgrade and is within the sphere of Moscow’s interests,” Russian Ambassador to the RS Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko told SM News when answering a question about the possible appearance of such an object in the very center of Europe.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission noted that military-technical cooperation between Russia and Serbia is developing and will deepen. Belgrade feels much more confident militarily on the Balkan Peninsula, and this is beginning to be reckoned with in the region. As for the joint humanitarian center, it exists and operates for crisis response in the event of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Botsan-Kharchenko emphasized that Serbia is a Russian-friendly state that opposes the anti-Russian restrictions of the West. In turn, Moscow supports Belgrade economically, for example, by ensuring the energy security of the Balkan country with stable supplies of natural gas at a bargain price.

“It is not very clear exactly what advantages the creation of a military base in Serbia will give. The fact is that the bases are located near the zones of possible hostilities. But in Serbia, territorially, it will be completely cut off from Russia and surrounded on all sides by countries EU and partly NATO countries. It is not clear how in this case it is possible to concentrate forces and provide a base, ” — said Vulin “Lente.ru”

He believes that the only possible purpose of creating such a base is reconnaissance missions and surveillance of the surrounding space. The expert believes that the European Union may begin to perceive Serbia as a likely source of threat in the event of a conflict. For the country, this is fraught with not the most pleasant consequences, Vulin added.

As previously reported, the Minister of the Interior of Serbia Alexander Vulin stated that his country refuses to enter into conflict with Russia and become “NATO infantry”. He advised his Western colleagues to apologize to the country for the hostilities.

We remindwhat On July 31, protests of the Serbian population began in the northern regions of Kosovo, which was outraged by the plans of the Albanians to stop the validity of Serbian documents from August 1 in a partially recognized state. The resulting serious tension forced the Serbian government to seek protection from Russia.

The current prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, wants to return to his demands for Serbs crossing the border from 1 September. This is seen only as an attempt to squeeze the Serbs out of their historically ancestral territories. Serbia will never accept having its people banned from moving between Serbia and Kosovo, given the many family ties that remain on both sides of the border.

In the event of a military conflict, despite the superior military force of Serbia, NATO will fight on the side of the Albanians, since Kosovo is of great military-strategic importance for the West. The situation is likely to be very tense.

“The government of the self-proclaimed Kosovo listened to the American ambassador and decided to postpone the application of the controversial decisions on car numbers and Serbian passports for 30 days – until September 1, the Serbs are offered to remove the barricades,” the telegram channel writes. Serbian Herald.
