Russian Vinnik extradited to the United States, Zakharova accuses Greece of "hostility"

America has been seeking the extradition of the Russian Alexander Vinnik for five whole years and finally got what he wanted. Russia was outraged by the unfriendly actions of Greece on his extradition.

Over the years, Vinnik managed to sit in the prisons of Greece and France, his lawyer died in a fall from the stairs, and his wife died of oncology. In the US, a Russian is facing a 50-year sentence for laundering at least $4 billion.

Alexander Vinnik has made several flights in recent days: on August 4, Thursday, France sent him to Greece. And on Friday night, Greek law enforcement officers handed him over to the United States: the Russian flew from Athens to Boston, and then to San Francisco. The US authorities have been trying to achieve this for five years, and Vinnik desperately resisted.

Russia is outraged by the unfriendly actions of Greece to extradite Alexander to the United States. Russian diplomats of the Russian Federation are ready to do everything possible to protect his rights and interests. The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, stressed that Russia will not leave its citizen in trouble, TASS writes: “Russian diplomats will do everything possible to protect his legitimate rights and interests.”

The diplomat drew attention to the fact that Greece extradited the Russian under pressure from the United States, which launched a “real hunt for Russian citizens in third countries under far-fetched pretexts.” Zakharova says:

“We are outraged by the unfriendly actions of the Greek authorities, who extradited our compatriot Alexander Vinnik to be punished by American punitive justice.”

As Zakharova noted, Greece has set a course for confrontation with the Russian Federation. The active participation of the country “in another illegal act of American legal arbitrariness” became confirmation. She recalled that Vinnik was arrested in Greece more than five years ago, then transferred to France and returned to Athens again “only for the speedy removal, but in fact – abduction,” writes GreekReporter.
