Tragic incident in Sivota: a 62-year-old woman from Komotini, a mother of two adult children and a grandmother, died while flying on a sea parachute, in front of her relatives.
The incident took place on a Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:30 pm. The parachute was attached with a towline to a speedboat, where the husband and son of the deceased woman were. However, suddenly a strong wind arose and a storm broke out.
The pilot of the ship tried to pull the parachute to the side by the traction cable, but it broke off and the woman fell into the sea. The unfortunate woman was noticed and picked up by another boat, but she was already dead. The 34-year-old boat pilot arrested by the port authorities is quoted newsbeast.gr:
“I am in shock, crying all day. Suddenly there was a loud sound, and at that moment the belt broke, I don’t understand how. I myself suffered and could have drowned if there had not been a boat that picked us up. I don’t know how the accident happened, the only reason I can explain it is sudden wind.”
