Androulakis: "I ask you to immediately announce the reason for the surveillance of me by ΕΥΠ"

The president of the third most influential political party in Greece, PASOK – KINAL, Nikos Androulakis, in a statement after Mitsotakis’s speech, asks to immediately make public the reason for the surveillance of him by the National Intelligence Service (ΕΥΠ).

Full text of the statement:

“With today’s announcement, the Prime Minister once again attempted to evade responsibility by adopting a ‘legal error’ narrative to justify a criminal act and a direct violation of the constitutional provision on parliamentary secrecy.

He also openly seeks to direct developments.

It is obvious that Mitsotakis really wanted the former head of the National Intelligence Service (ΕΥΠ) to receive immunity from prosecution, and he placed the objective political responsibility on the secretary general of Prime Minister Grigoris Dimitriadis, reducing it to the level of negligence.

Since shadows are not allowed in a democracy, what shadow did you cast, Mr. Mitsotakis? The Predator Shadow you didn’t even mention?

The prime minister methodically avoided explaining what kind of semi-state body he had created.

The spy “superweapon” Predator tried to listen to my cell phone when I was under surveillance by ΕΥΠ a few days before. And if it were not for the official report of the special service of the European Parliament, we would not have learned anything about these shadow practices.

The tales about the involvement of Armenia and Ukraine in my surveillance received a response from their embassies in the most official and humiliating way for you.

Mr. Mitsotakis, I ask you to immediately disclose the reason for the surveillance of me by ΕΥΠ, which you have the audacity to call legitimate, in violation of the confidentiality of my communications as a member of the European Parliament and presidential candidate for PASOK-KINAL.

I won’t accept any cover-up. I will not allow Mr. Mitsotakis to belittle a cause that is central to the division of power in our country.

It’s not a personal question, as I’ve said many times before. This is a question of democracy. The concern of every citizen is to live and educate their children in an environment of justice and absolute respect for human rights. I will continue to fight for justice, the Greek parliament and European institutions to bring the whole truth to light.

Today the Prime Minister tried to buy time. But time is already ticking for him. Soon he will face the truth. I call on every Greek, every democrat to defend the proper functioning of the constitution against those who have turned constitutional freedoms into rags, exposing our country internationally.”
