Fire in Nea Peramos, blocked the national road Athens-Korinth

The fire that broke out in the area of ​​Loutropyrgos in Nea Peramos, three kilometers from the Elefsina toll road, continues. 55 firefighters with 15 vehicles and three pedestrian units were sent to fight the elements, local water carriers help the fire brigade.

According to the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection, there is no danger to residential buildings. Traffic on the highways of Athens Corinth (Olympia) was suspended from Elefsina to Nea Peramos and is carried out along the Old National Road. Rail traffic has also been closed. Temporarily canceled all flights of local trains.

Shortly before 11.50 am residents received a message 112 about the evacuation of the village of Ano Vlichada. They were asked to move towards Megara along the old Athens-Corinth highway.

To date, a very high fire risk (5/8) is forecast for three regions of the country, according to a fire risk prediction map issued by the Director General of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crises and Civil Protection.

In particular, a very high fire hazard (risk category 4) is predicted today (5/8) for the following areas:

  • North Aegean region (Chios region, Samos region, Ikaria region)
  • Region Attica
  • Region of Central Greece (Evia).

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has informed the relevant competent state authorities, as well as the regions and municipalities of the above areas, to be in an enhanced civil protection regime and ready to respond immediately to any fires.

At the same time, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection advises citizens to be especially careful and avoid activities in the open air that can cause a fire by negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, using machines that cause sparks, such as circular saws and welding appliances, using outdoor grills, smoking out bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. It is also reminded that burning grass in the fields during the fire season is prohibited.
