Fire in Asteras Vouliagmenis

The fire and rescue service received an alarm in the afternoon on August 5: a fire broke out in Asteras Vouliagmenis. As you can see in the photo below, the fire is located not far from the well-known fashionable hotel.

According to the fire brigade, the fire occurred in the warehouse, where building materials are stored. The press service of the fire brigade emphasizes that the fire does not threaten either the forest or the territory of the hotel. Currently, 15 firefighters, who arrived in 6 specialized vehicles, are working at the scene. Volunteer firefighters are also helping.

According to the fire risk forecast map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr), on Saturday 06 August 2022, a very high fire risk (risk category 4) is predicted in the following areas:

  1. North Aegean region (Lesbos region, Chios region, Ikaria region).
  2. Region of Attica.
  3. Region of Central Greece (Evia).

In addition, the fire service personnel of the above regional divisions are on partial alert to cope with the increased demand for service that may arise due to the very high risk of fire (risk category 4).

In the above areas, the civil protection action plan to combat the risks associated with forest fires remains in force.

In particular, measures are being implemented to prevent the movement of vehicles and the stay of tourists in national parks, forests and other places where there is a high risk of fire.

In direct cooperation with the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, all relevant state bodies, as well as districts and municipalities of the above regions, have been informed to be on high alert to take measures within their competence.
