A luxury resort in the Maldives is looking for someone who enjoys reading and social media to run a bookstore.
The store, located in the Soneva Fushi resort, has an open position for a “barefoot bookseller” who will live and work there for a year starting next October.
According to time outthe salary is up to $750 per month, but the bookseller will live for free in the villa, which costs $36,500 per night.
The ad says that “excellent written and oral English skills” required. Applicants must have previous experience in the bookselling or publishing industry, a love of reading, and an extensive knowledge of classical and contemporary literature.
Applicants must also monitor and manage social media trends. The bookseller will be in charge of running the social media pages of The Barefoot Bookseller to share his experiences as a bookseller in the Maldives.
On a day-to-day basis, the bookseller will manage the bookstore’s sales and be responsible for services provided to guests, such as creative writing classes and lectures.
The Barefoot Bookseller program began in 2018 when a pop-up bookstore opened at Soneva Fushi Resort. Since then, a total of six booksellers have passed through this position.
Soneva Fushi is located on Kunfunadhoo Island, which, according to TimeOut, has a “no shoes, no news” rule, hence the title of the “barefoot bookseller” ad. Kunfunadu is a huge and very beautiful island, immersed in greenery and impressive white sand beaches.
Job applications must be submitted by August 13, and the company said it only accepts and responds to applications written in English.
