The Municipality of Athens has announced the installation of 2,200 new garbage cans on the streets of the city.
According to the relevant announcement of the municipality, 1,663 containers have already been placed in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th municipal districts, and the placement of approximately 450 containers in the 5th municipal district. The new bins have a special lever that makes it easy for citizens to deposit their waste. The outer surface of the containers is coated to prevent graffiti.
In addition to metal bins, the Municipality of Athens continues to place floor bins, mixed waste bins (green) and waste bins for plastic, glass and aluminum (blue) where needed, “gradually forming a modern network that makes it much easier for residents to and guests of the city to keep it clean,” the announcement says.
In a statement, Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis notes that municipal authorities from the very beginning focused on the culture of everyday lifewhich is a strategic direction.
“We have changed the philosophy of the municipality and the way we work in the center and on the outskirts. We have said no to surface and scattered cleaning, putting general cleaning at the forefront of our daily lives, as well as a major renovation of the city’s infrastructure. Because Athens is our a house from edge to edge, and its cleanliness is not a process, but a starting point to live better in it, ”he said.
