Partner beats young woman to death: 3rd case of femicide in 2 days

A young woman was beaten to death by her partner. The body of the deceased was found by her mother and sister at the victim’s home in the Athens district of Peristeri, shortly before midnight Monday. This is the third case of femicide in Greece in just two days.

According to preliminary media reports, the third victim was between 17 and 20 years old. The evidence so far points to a crime, as the victim’s half-naked body was found on the bed, covered in bruises, as well as showing signs of struggle and suffocation.

Police, however, are looking into all possibilities, and an autopsy is expected to shed light on the cause of her death. There are no signs of forced entry in the apartment.

The young woman was alone in the family apartment when the crime took place. Her mother and sister found her dead in her room shortly before midnight on Monday.

Police are looking for the partner of the victim, a man of Pakistani origin. A young girl had a relationship with him in the last 4-5 months, he often stayed in the house. According to witnesses, the man was seen on Monday when he came to the apartment with his friends. They took some things from the victim’s house and left in an unknown direction.

The resident of the apartment building said she opened the door for them. A friend of the victim said that the young woman’s partner was slightly older than her and “seemed to be a nice person.” According to some mass mediathe authorities brought a married couple, who were on friendly terms with the victim, to the police station for questioning.

The murder of a young woman in Peristeri was the third case of femicide in Greece in just two days after Sunday in Crete and Zakynthos, husbands slaughtered their wives.

Sunday morning in Rethymnon, Crete, a man stabbed his wife to death for wanting a divorce. Twelve hours later, another man on the island of Zakynthos stabbed his wife to death. The victim had just returned from the local police station, where she filed a complaint against her husband for domestic violence. This was the second complaint in less than two months.

Killings of women by their current or former partners (femicide)or their sons (matricide) have reached alarming levels in Greece over the past two and a half years, with 15 women dead in 2022 alone, five of them since early July.
