President of the Panhellenic Movement of Greek-Russian Friendship Ioannis Kotsailidis addressed with an open letter to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin
Your Excellency Mr. President,
In the past four years, relations between Russia and Greece have experienced and continue to experience a serious crisis.
After the expulsion of Russian diplomats by the SYRIZA government in 2018, a crisis in Ukraine ensued, which widened the diplomatic rift between our countries.
Today, the Greek government, in perfect alignment with the political and strategic choices of the West, prefers to position itself on the side of countries that oppose Russia and its choices.
Ignoring the longstanding and historical ties between our two peoples, the Mitsotakis government is joining the forces that want to impose their political choice on Russia and is engaging in actions such as economic sanctions against Russia and its people.
I want to assure you that this policy does not express the overwhelming majority of the Greek people who want to continue good and constructive relations between our countries based on respect for the principles of international law.
Whatever the outcome of the temporary crisis in Ukraine, which we want to find a peaceful and diplomatic solution, it should not lead to a permanent deterioration in relations between our two countries.
The Greek people was, is and will remain a friend and
brother with the Russian people, regardless of the choice of governments, and this should be a constant and constant aspiration of all of us.
After all, the immortal and numerous presence of the Greeks both in Russia and in Ukraine and peaceful coexistence with the Russian and Ukrainian people for thousands of years is the best evidence and guarantee for the future.
I wish that God, in whom we all believe, will help, that reason and peace will triumph and that our two peoples will once again find themselves side by side on the path of creation and development.
President of the Panhellenic Movement of Greek-Russian Friendship
Ioannis Kotsailidis
