Personal doctor: registration of citizens begins on August 1

Tomorrow, on Monday, August 1, the process of registering citizens who have reached the age of 16 begins with their personal doctor in all regions of the country, except for Attica and the South Aegean region. The deadline for registering physicians as a personal physician is August 5, 2022.

For the two regions of Attica and the South Aegean, the registration of citizens will begin on September 1, 2022, and the registration of doctors has been extended only for these two regions until August 31, 2022. The “personal doctor” system will be fully operational early next year.

In particular, the population over the age of 16 and the adult population are registered with a personal doctor who is freely chosen, regardless of place of residence, from among all registered in the current register of physicians.

The procedure for registering citizens with a personal doctor

Registration (attachment) to a personal doctor is carried out electronically either by a citizen through the citizen registration platform, or by the administrative and other personnel of ΠΦΥ public health service providers, or by personal doctors, the publication reports. ieidiseis.gr.

A citizen registers with a personal doctor in the following ways:

  1. Through the personal physician registration platform (https://ehealth.gov.gr/p-rv/p), where entry is made with taxisnet codes and AMCA citizen.
  2. In person at a ΠΦΥ medical institution or with a personal doctor, taking with you your AMCA and an identity document (or a photocopy of it).

All citizen applications are accepted until the legal limit of 2,000 registered citizens per doctor is reached. In the case of private doctors who have entered into an agreement with EOPYY, citizens’ applications for registration are accepted in accordance with a certain limit, which each doctor has indicated in his agreement.

Citizens who are already registered with a family doctor are considered registered with a personal doctor with all relevant rights and obligations, and are not required to take any further actions.

Everyone has the right to register with only one personal doctor. The transition to another is allowed once a year, which begins from the day of registration of a citizen. In the event of a change in the administrative region of residence during the year, a citizen has the right to an additional transfer (to another doctor).

The uninsured have the option of registering at their request with a personal physician hired by EOPYY if they cannot be covered by a public health unit’s ΠΦΥ physician.

Citizens who wish to register with a personal physician of the National Health Service in areas that have been described as problematic and remote, can register for the services of a personal physician at the health post in their place of residence.

Establishment of a “personal doctor” system

A citizen turns to a personal doctor when he has health problems. From the doctor, he will receive general advice and instructions for the next steps in the healthcare system (based on the symptoms, he will refer to a specific specialist).

In particular, the personal physician refers the recipient of medical services to medical specialists of the Health Centers, government institutions of secondary and tertiary health care and to medical service providers working under contract with EOPYY. Specialist physicians also have the right to be referred in their specialty. Ambulance and emergency services do not require a referral.

A personal doctor will provide comprehensive and continuous assistance to a citizen in order to prevent diseases and improve health. A personal physician is obliged to give directions for preventive measures, fill out a medical record, receive a patient for examination, prescribe the necessary drugs, give a referral for tests to specialist doctors or hospitalization, if necessary. Personal physician services are provided through government ΠΦΥ local ΠΦΥ service networks, local health department health facilities, private clinics, and in homes.
