North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said he was ready to use nuclear weapons if there is a threat from South Korea or the United States.
His remarks were made during a speech at a ceremony marking the 69th anniversary of the Korean War truce, Reuters reported, quoting the North Korean leader:
“Our armed forces are fully prepared to respond to any crisis, and our national nuclear deterrence system is also fully prepared to faithfully, accurately and quickly mobilize its absolute forces to fulfill its mission.”
He threatened that South Korea’s attempt to preemptively destroy North Korea’s military forces would be “immediately punished by a powerful force, and Yoon Seok-yeol’s regime and army would be destroyed.”
Kim Jong-un made his announcement after both Seoul and Washington noted the day before that Pyongyang had completed preparations for its first nuclear test since 2017.
Earlier, Athens News reported that leader of the DPRK Kim Jong-un congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on Russia Day and expressed “full support” for the special operation in Ukraine. The North Korean leader noted that he appreciates the “long history, tradition of friendship and good neighborliness” of the Russian and Korean peoples, and is going to “expand and develop them, in accordance with the dictates of the new era and the aspirations of the peoples of the two countries.” In conclusion, he wished good health to Putin and prosperity to the Russians.
