Schools open on September 12 – transition to a full day of education

Education Minister Niki Kerameos, speaking on ANT1, spoke about admission scores, the public IEK, and how schools will operate from September.

Ms. Kerameos said about the grounds for admission to higher educational institutions, “passing points”, which “this year were announced earlier than in any other year (what we have been preparing for 1.5 years in the ministry)”, Ms. Kerameos said.

The Minister of Education also spoke about the public vocational schools IEK, which she said had been significantly upgraded. “We will provide another 10,000 seats in September. There are specialties, such as web development, which are in high demand. You can enter a similar IEK and get a certificate, and after 2 years enter the labor market and be in demand,” said Niki Kerameos.

As for the next academic year, the minister noted: “Schools open on Monday, September 12th. This school season – with the most appropriate (healthy) balance of human resources in decades. (This refers to the presence in schools of a sufficient number of teachers of all specialties.). For 12 years, not a single teacher was appointed, and in one year 3,000 left, the next – 4,000 and then – 5,000. Under our government, 25,000 teachers were appointed to positions on a permanent basis. This year the planning for filling vacancies was done much earlier“.

“Extended day studies will now end at 5:30 pm in 50% of the country’s daytime classes instead of 4:00 pm,” the ANT1 program said. The full-time school for children has an expanded program like “support for working parents” so that school hours and parents’ working hours “coincide”.

Ms. Kerameos also reported on the increase in the level of education at all levels, noting, among other things, that the lyceum has optional education that complements the courses, and that English classes have been introduced in kindergartens throughout the country so that children from 4 years old begin to acquire useful skills.
