Boris Johnson is the next NATO Secretary General? Maybe…

Senior leaders of the British Conservative Party support Boris Johnson’s candidacy for NATO Secretary General. France is ready to veto.

According to The Telegraph, the resigned ex-Prime Minister of Great Britain, may well take this high post in NATO. His candidacy has been considered for a long time, due to US distrust of figures EUleading the alliance. Johnson is also supported by senior leaders of the British Conservative Party.

MP Mark François said the former British prime minister’s political legacy will be controversial for many years, but his unwavering support for Ukraine is clearly undeniable:

“If he were to apply for the position of NATO Secretary General, I suspect he could rely on President Zelensky for a recommendation.”

Lord Dunnutt, ex-commander of the British Army, declared his unwillingness to support the candidacy of Boris Johnson because of his character:

“Undoubtedly, he did a lot of good things, and our full support for Ukraine is fantastic. But I am afraid that these are personal things: lack of honesty, lack of trust. To be honest, we do not want to put Boris Johnson on the international stage for new ridicule. He is a disgrace to the nation “.

Johnson’s candidacy, according to a source in the British Ministry of Defense, is not approved by all EU countries. He argues that if Johnson tries to become NATO Secretary General, he will face, for example, a French veto, since decisions in the alliance are made unanimously.

The current head of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, will leave his post in September 2023. The list of the most likely candidates for the position of the alliance’s general secretary includes five people.
