Deadline for filing tax returns extended by one month

In response to the requests of accountants and taxpayers, the government decided to extend the deadline for filing tax returns.

All those who did not have time to submit the document on time are invited to do this before August 30, according to the order of the Greek Ministry of Finance. This year, the electronic platform for filing personal income tax returns began to work on March 30, 2022. As of July 20, 81% of taxpayers have filed declarations, the rest must do so before August 30. Christos Staikouras, Minister of Finance of Greece, and Apostolos Vesiropoulos, Deputy Minister of Tax Policy and Public Property, issued the following statement:

“The government, fully aware of the difficulties faced by citizens, as well as the increased workload on accountants and tax experts recently due to the energy crisis, which requires the filing of applications for various e-help platforms, as well as in connection with the pandemic, which leads to delays in the work of citizens and accountants, the deadline for filing tax returns is extended until August 30. This is the last extension so that everyone can complete the application process and be consistent in their commitment.”

On Friday, July 29, at 15:00, the deadline for citizens to submit their income declarations to the tax authorities ends. The number of those not filed, according to the ΑΑΔΕ, is 1.6 million: out of a total of 6.4 million declarations, 4.741 million have already been filed. And this means that just over 100,000 declarations must be submitted daily, which the ministry calls quite feasible.
