The gusty winds subside, it’s getting hotter

From today the temperature in Greece is rising, the hottest day will be on Sunday. What kind of weather can we expect before the end of the month?

According to meteorologist Clearchos Marousakis, deadly heatwavethat hit Europe will not reach Greece. Although the thermometer will rise to 40 ° C, this is quite normal for mid-July, at the height of summer.

The wind will gradually subside, and the temperature today in most regions will be 34-36°C. Sunday will be hot, especially in Thessaly, Agrinio, Messolonghi, Argos, with temperatures around 39-40°C.

For the next 10 days, starting from yesterday Thursday, July 21, meteorologist Sakis Arnautoglu predicts temperature riseits peak will be on the next Sunday – the thermometer will show 39 ° С.

Meteorologist Giannis Kallianos presented yesterday new data on a heat wave and explained how many days the 40-degree heat will last. He predicts that the coming days will be especially hot: “Arm with patience. Moderate intensity, but a long duration of the heat wave. According to the latest forecast data, the heat will begin tomorrow (i.e. today, approx. Editorial).” The meteorologist specifies:

“It will be felt in most parts of the country on Friday and mostly over the weekend. It does not appear to be extreme or dangerous in terms of the maximum temperatures it will give. But it will be quite exhausting in terms of the amount of time it will affect on us.”

That is, from today, according to meteorologists, from Friday, July 22, a significant increase in temperature indicators throughout the country will begin, when mercury will approach 40 ° C in the low parts of the mainland. At least until next Friday, July 29, maximum temperatures will not exceed these values. Perhaps this weather will continue until the end of the month.

So ahead – at least 7-8 days with elevated temperatures on the islands and mainly in mainland Greece, in hot areas of the mainland, the mercury column can reach 41-42 ° C. Where is it possible? Giannis Callianos introduced the districts:

“When we talk about areas prone to heat, we mean the low-lying parts of Central Macedonia, for example, areas in the prefecture of Serres, areas in the west of Thessaloniki, the low-lying parts of Pella or the prefecture of Kilkis, the Thessalian plain, the inland regions of Epirus, parts of Aitoloakarnania, Phthiotis and Boeotia, perhaps the westernmost parts of the prefecture of Attica, parts of Argolis, Corinth and Laconia. In all of the above areas, the air temperature will reach 41-42 ° C, mainly starting from the weekend.”

In Attica, the maximum temperatures for the next few days will be as follows:

Friday 22 July : 37-38°C

Saturday 23 July : 38°C

Sunday 24 July : 40-41°C

Monday 25 July : 40-41°C.

In the following days, after July 25 and until the end of the month, the temperature will be similar.

The Municipality of Athens will open 7 public air-conditioned spaces in different parts of the capital in response to warnings of impending hot days. The premises will strictly adhere to the rules of hygiene and safety for Covid-19, with the mandatory use of a mask throughout the stay, while ensuring natural ventilation and the presence of an antiseptic solution. The municipal clinics of Athens have launched a “Helpline” providing information to support the residents of the city (210 3638049, from 08:30 to 19:30).
