The White House commented on the situation with Lend-Lease and spoke about plans to use the assistance program for Ukraine.
According to “Voice of America”referring to a high-ranking official, now the White House’s priority is not Lend-Lease supplies, but irrevocable military assistance to Ukraine, for which it will not have to return funds.
A source in the administration explained to the publication that the lend-lease program involves the return of funds for received military equipment, while other programs through which Washington supplies aid to Kyiv, in particular, USAI (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative) and the presidential powers program, do not provide for this.
Therefore, the White House has so far focused precisely on such programs, for which Ukraine will not have to pay later. The latest deliveries of American weapons to Ukraine go through them, and lend-lease is not a priority for the Joe Biden administration now.
However, John Kirby, coordinator for the US National Security and Strategic Communications Council, said the administration is still considering the powers that the lend-lease program provides.
