Pandemic situation in Greece – experts anxiously await autumn

The Greek government and experts are facing a serious challenge – the sixth wave of coronavirus in the country is slowly but surely gaining momentum.

The burden on ΕΣΥ, the Greek health care system, is increasing. On the one hand, the government is well aware that the introduction of urgent measures to spread covid now, at the height of the tourist season, will inevitably become a disaster for the economy. But on the other hand, the authorities cannot remain indifferent in the face of the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

In just the last week, the number of hospitalizations increased by 16%. Experts are confident that this growth will continue at least until the end of July. Since last Monday, hospitals have been put on alert. The Department of Health has launched a plan to increase the number of beds for the treatment of coronavirus in adults. Experts know that the pressure will continue to rise, as expert models show that hard rates will increase, and we will see numbers that we managed to forget about deaths and intubations.

For coronavirus patients newsbeast.gr, an additional 101 beds have already been reserved at the Σωτηρία, Σισμανόγλειο and Αμαλία Φλέμινγκ hospitals. Large private clinics also did not stand aside and allocated 45 beds.

The words of Professor Sotiris Tsiodras, which he said online yesterday at a meeting of the European Parliament’s ad hoc committee on the COVID-19 pandemic in Brussels, testify to how much scientists are worried about the onset of autumn.

The professor is the main strategic adviser to the Greek government on pandemic issues. From the very beginning of his speech, he made it clear that the pandemic is not over and will continue. Mr. Tsiodras stressed that it is not known what the fifth alarming mutation will be.

Tsiodras called for a generation of vaccines to handle the new options. He also called on all citizens over 60 and vulnerable groups to hurry to get second booster dose vaccines to protect your health and life. He noted that the adoption of measures cannot depend only on the mood in a society that is tired of the pandemic. The professor urged all European countries to follow the same line.
