At the moment, eight women are known to have suffered from “knockout drops”. In Germany, this term means the so-called “rape drugs”, which include “Rohypnol” (“Flunitrazepam”). Scandal breaks out as Social Democrats look into possible drug poisoning at this week’s summer party, says Deutsche Welle.
The Tagesspiegel was the first to report on the scandalous incident on Saturday, July 9, citing an internal SPD chat. Then the information was also at the disposal of the news agencies dpa and Reuters. Matthias Martin, leader of the SPD faction, wrote in a letter to fellow party members:
“This is an outrageous incident, which on our part was immediately reported to the Bundestag police. We recommend that other possible victims immediately report this to the police.”
According to the Tagesspiegel, at least eight women present at the event suffered from “rape drugs” that they had injected. According to the Social Democrats chat, one case was confirmed as a result of the audit, and charges have already been brought against an unknown attacker.
The executive secretary of the Social Democrats faction in the Bundestag, Katya Mast, advised everyone who considers themselves victims to inform the authorities about what happened. She stated:
“We are all outraged and will do everything in our power to shed light on this incredible incident.”
The traditional SPD party took place in Berlin on July 6, the last working week of the Bundestag before the summer holidays. According to Tagesspiegel, about a thousand guests attended the event, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
