The World Health Organization notes that children begin to get sick with monkeypox. Epidemiologist Rosamund Lewis, head of the secretariat of the smallpox organization, reports that WHO fixes infections in children.
Edition BB.LV Lewis quotes:
“There are reports of cases in children. Today, about a third of them are children under the age of 10, and half are children under the age of five.”
According to her, children are mostly infected at home. Earlier, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization, said that until recently isolated cases of human infection with monkeypox were recorded, and now 6,000 cases have been detected in 58 countries in the world, with 80% of cases occurring in Europe.
As writes TASS, children suffer monkeypox more severely than adults. This may be due to a weaker immune system. This opinion was expressed by a virologist, chief researcher of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after V.I. N. F. Gamalei Anatoly Altshtein.
