ID card and driver’s license on mobile since July

Identity card and driver’s license on a mobile phone “will appear” from July, said the minister of digital government Kyriakos Pierrakakis.

Along with the bill, which will be submitted to parliament next month, a regulatory framework for new technologies will be introduced, including artificial intelligence and blockchain (blockchain, το internet of things).

The Minister made this statement while commenting on the findings of a Deloitte study on the benefits of digital management. As it turned out, in every visit by citizens of the digital portal gov.gr there is a benefit not only for themselves, but also for the state (in the amount of 1 euro). In just two years, from March 2020 (when the portal went live) to March 2022, the site received 273 million visits and a total benefit of 273 million euros. The study was presented yesterday at the BSE Digital Governance event.

The benefit is mainly related to time savings due to the reduction of travel time of citizens and employment of employees (268 million), while 1.2 million is a savings due to reduced carbon emissions and reduced costs of 800,000 euros of printed documents . The same study estimates that benefits will reach 1.3 billion euros in five years, as the services provided by the state’s digital portal and its use by citizens increase.

Gov.gr currently provides 1375 services, up from 1147 in March 2021 and 627 in September 2020. During this period, 6.5 million responsible declarations were made, 2.2 million authorizations were issued, 4.5 million certificates were issued, 18 million vaccine certificates and 3.2 million activations of non-material prescriptions.

It is also worth noting that the pandemic favored the use of the portal, however, even after the removal of restrictions on physical transactions, its use continues to grow. In particular, over the past four months, the monthly growth rate of the use of gov.gr for authorizations, certificates, etc. reaches 10%, which means that 1 million new digital transactions are made every month.
