Halkidiki port authorities are investigating the cause of death of a 64-year-old German tourist who was found dead at sea off the coast of Ouranoupolis on Monday afternoon. The body showed signs of trauma to the head and abdomen.
The deceased was discovered by another swimmer who reported the find to the Coast Guard. He also removed the body and carried it to the beach, where he was identified by the wife of the drowned man.
The body was taken to the coroner’s office in Thessaloniki. An autopsy should take place as soon as possible. According to media reports, there is a suspicion that a German tourist was injured by the propeller of a speedboat that fled the scene.
The couple was vacationing in Halkidiki, in northern Greece.
