Eight Greek diplomats in Russia declared persona non grata

On the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on June 27, a message appeared that 8 Greek diplomats were declared “undesirable persons”:

“On June 27, the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the Russian Federation, E. Nassika, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, who expressed a strong protest in connection with the confrontational course of the Greek authorities towards Russia, including the supply of weapons and military equipment to the Kyiv regime and the announcement of a group of Russian diplomats in Greece” persona non grata”. The ambassador was handed a note with a notification that, as a response, eight Greek diplomatic employees in Russia were declared “persona non grata” and they must leave the country within eight days. Information was provided on other steps taken by the Russian side, related to the functioning of the Greek missions abroad in Russia”.

Yesterday, on Monday, at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Ambassador of Greece Catherine Nassica was summoned. She was protested in connection with the confrontational course of Athens towards Moscow and the announcement of Russian diplomats persona non grata.

This is a retaliatory step by the Russian Federation for the expulsion of its diplomats from Europe, writes “News”. Western countries have declared several hundred employees of Russian foreign missions persona non grata. The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Moscow’s actions were a response to the unfriendly actions of Greece, the responsibility for this lies with Athens.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Athens Andrei Maslov noted that Greece is no longer a country for a favorable holiday for Russians. According to him, there is a wave of Russophobia, and it is fueled by the political leadership of the country.
