Russian Foreign Ministry says: Greece for the rest of the Russians has become unsafe

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation excludes Greece from countries where Russian citizens can safely rest.

This was stated in an interview with TASS reporters by Yuri Pilipson, director of the Fourth European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry:

In the context of the ongoing anti-Russian rhetoric from Greek officials and the dissemination of disinformation about events in Ukraine in the local media – and Russian informal sources have long been blocked – reports continue to be received of facts of discrimination and even direct aggression towards Russians and Russian-speaking citizens.

He reported on egregious incidents that were included in the recent report of the Russian Foreign Ministry “On Violations of the Rights of Russian Citizens and Compatriots in Foreign Countries”:

There were cases of beatings, including of children: after the attacks, the victims required hospitalization. Greek banks often freely interpret the illegal restrictive measures introduced by the European Union, block the accounts of Russians on a national basis.

The diplomat noted that complaints from Russians about the violation of their legitimate rights and interests are received literally daily by the Russian Embassy in Athens and the Consulate General in Thessaloniki:

All information is brought to Russian law enforcement agencies. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened several cases. We recommend that citizens, in the event of incidents, file complaints with the competent Greek authorities in order to bring the perpetrators to justice. As mentioned above, the possibilities of consular assistance are now seriously limited due to the reduction of diplomatic staff, plus our official requests often go unanswered.

Pilipson notes that the Russian Embassy in Athens is seeking from the Greek side that the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination of 1965 is not violated.
