The ups and downs of the cottage rental industry due to Airbnb

Short-term rentals of Airbnb properties have led to ups and downs in the industry, according to experts.

Although the demand for vacation home rentals remains unchanged, the business area seems to be shrinking due to the small supply that is now fixed in almost all summer destinations.

Seasonal rentals are few and far between, while according to the news, asking prices are often prohibitive for a family that decides to rent a house for the summer season as a budget option.

As the number of property bookings registered on short-term rental platforms increased by 232% from June to September compared to last year, most landlords are choosing to rent their holiday homes through short-term rental platforms by the day rather than “seasonally”.

Vacation home rental asking prices are showing an upward trend this year, according to data obtained by Panhellenic Network E-Real Estates.

Large discrepancies, both in terms of the minimum rental period and, mainly, prices, are recorded in the asking rent of housing located on the Greek islands, compared with the corresponding rental rates on the mainland.

Thus, as he writes newsbomb.gr, a house with an area of 40 sq.m. in Paros for rent for 3000 euros per month, and a house of 55 sq.m. in Mykonos is rented for 25,000 euros. In Santorini studio rental 33 sq.m. for three months will cost 7700 euros.
