Bad weather may have spoiled many for last weekend, the three-day holiday on the day of the Holy Spirit. She decided “not to spoil” the Greeks this Saturday-Sunday, June 18 and 19.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected in most parts of Greece this weekend. However, the weather will change radically with the arrival of the first summer heat (καύσωνας).
According to meteorologist Clearchos Marousakis, Saturday June 18 “will start with good weather and clear skies. But already in the second half of the day it will become cloudy, showers and local thunderstorms are expected (mainly in the mountainous and foothill regions of central and northwestern Greece). The air temperature in some places will rise to +33°C. In the Aegean Sea, the wind is from the north, with a force of up to 7 points on the Beaufort scale. These weather conditions, according to experts, increase the risk of fires in the east and south of the country.
From Monday, June 20, the situation will improve dramatically, sunny weather will come. However, heat will come from Tuesday. According to the forecast of SKAI meteorologist Christina Susi, on Tuesday in continental Greece and in Attica, the air temperature will reach +36°C, and from Wednesday it will rise by a few more degrees.
As the meteorologist notes, the two hottest days of next week will be Thursday and Friday, and we may see the first +40°C. In fact, the first heat wave will have a longer duration, which can be up to 10 days.
On Friday, most of the country is sunny, and only in the north it will rain. Showers are expected in the mountainous regions of Pella, Pieria and Imatia, as well as in eastern Macedonia.
On Saturday, the rains will come to Thrace, Drama, Kavala, Thessaly, and also cover Attica and the Peloponnese.
On Sunday, June 19, bad weather is expected in Halkidiki, Magnesia and North Evia. By evening the weather will improve.
