The Athens police department is conducting a major operation in various parts of Attica to eliminate the criminal network, whose members were engaged in the transportation of illegal immigrants and the trade in forged documents.

According to ΕΛΑΣ15 people have been arrested so far. A detailed report is expected after the completion of the police operation. Currently, the media do not have any additional information (neither about where exactly the arrests were made, nor about the exact actions of a particular criminal organization), writes in.gr.

We remind you that about ten days ago, the international network for the transport of migrants and forgery of travel documents was liquidated during a special operation in Athens, carried out by the Immigration Administration Department of the Attica Aliens Administration, coordinated by the Hellenic Police Protection Authority, with the assistance of EUROPOL.

And a month ago, law enforcement agencies conducted a new large-scale operation “broom” (“σκούπα”) in the area of Agiou Konstantinou Street, near Omonia Square.

According to ΕΛΑΣ, a total of 442 people were checked, 129 foreigners were detained, who did not have the necessary documents. They were all taken to PROKEKA (Amygdaleza).

The operation was attended by 147 police officers from various departments (Attica Aliens Directorate, Athens Police Directorate/Patrol Subdivision, Attica Security Directorate/OPKE, ACTION, Emergency Response Teams, Traffic Directorate, Police Operations Directorate, etc.).

“We are intensifying special police operations with the participation of all Greek police units both in the center and in the vicinity of Athens and Thessaloniki. Our goal is to fight illegal immigration, human trafficking and, of course, the spread of drugs. This is a way to steadily increase the sense of security of citizens,” said the Minister for Citizens’ Protection, Takis Theodorikakos.

Police operations will continue as part of special operational planning in various areas of Attica and Thessaloniki, reports lifo.gr.
