Bloomberg: general mobilization is possible in Russia

In the first 100 days of hostilities in Ukraine, according to Bloomberg, Putin has used up most of Russia’s military potential, so general mobilization is possible in the country.

In a few months, moreover, it will be necessary to slow down the offensive. Citing senior sources in EU Bloomberg notes:

“Russia is scouring the country for manpower and weapons, including old tanks based in the Far East, according to senior European officials familiar with the situation, as it used up most of its military capacity in the first 100 days of its invasion of Ukraine. As a result, Russia may be only a few months away before it has to suspend the “operation” for a massive regrouping… The Kremlin could also be forced to announce a massive mobilization, which Russian President Vladimir Putin has so far avoided as it would be tantamount to a public recognition that the war is not going as planned.”

The publication also notes that Russia’s problems may not arise so soon as to provide assistance to Ukrainian forces in the east of Donbass. According to Ukrainian officials, the country, which is significantly inferior in armament to the Russian Federation, is losing 100 or more people a day. In connection with such losses and insufficient armament, she is forced to gradually give up positions around Severodonetsk and Lysichansk.

Bloomberg emphasizes that if Russia succeeds in taking these two cities, especially Lisichansk, it will effectively capture the entire Lugansk region, achieving one of the goals set by Putin at the beginning of the war. However, it is noted that Russia’s progress remains slow.

Indrek Kannik, director of the Estonian International Center for Defense and Security, believes that Russia will most likely need at least another 2-3 months to capture the major cities of Donbass – Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. He is also sure that after achieving its goals, Russia will insist on concluding a treaty on this basis.

In recent weeks, Ukraine has been increasingly asking for weapons to deter the aggressor. Kaja Kallas, Prime Minister of Estonia, believes that now everyone should focus on providing military assistance to Kyiv. If decisions are made to send heavy weapons to Ukraine, she believes, they “should be sent now, not in December.”
