A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized in serious condition after a fire broke out at the Eleonas refugee center in Athens early Wednesday morning.
According to the Ministry of Health, the minor suffers from burns and breathing problems, he was intubated at the Hagia Sophia Children’s Hospital.
Three containers of refugees were completely burned, half of the fourth container, and a tissue warehouse outside the perimeter of the facility caught fire from intense heat, which was also half burned. Eighteen firefighters in five vehicles managed to put out the fire.
The camp, which is home to over 1100 people, visited by representatives of the KKE headed by Haris Vurdubasparty official and municipal councilor of Athens from the “People’s Rally”.
Parliamentary Representative of the KKE Thanassis Pafilis turned to the Minister for Climate Change and Civil Protection Christos Stylianides demanding that the fire be extinguished immediately and that all necessary measures be taken to protect the health of refugees and KKE employees.
