University of Athens strips Vladimir Putin of honorary doctorate

The National University of Kapodistrias in Athens (EKPA) initiated the annulment of the honorary doctorate awarded to Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2001, the university’s administration said on Wednesday.

EKPA said it also briefed the rectors of the European Civic University (CIVIS), which involves 10 of Europe’s leading higher education institutions, during their online meeting on the same day. Several universities in Ukraine are almost destroyed or are trying to return to work, CIVIS notes.

In order to accelerate the restructuring and coordination of Ukrainian higher education and the European Union, the University of Athens proposed to merge Ukrainian universities, individually or in a group, with European universities.

Money received from the Russian Federation for the opening faculty of the Russian language, I take it they won’t return it? But it can be said that they saved from bankruptcy this university in 2015.
