President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is a laureate of the Boris Nemtsov Prize

The Boris Nemtsov Foundation nominated this year for the annual award of the citizens of Ukraine. The victory in the nomination “For Courage in Upholding Democratic Values” went to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to the organization, among the nominees were the leader of the Okean Elzy group Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital Vitaliy Klitschko, adviser to the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Arestovich, the founder of the unit of combat medical volunteers Yulia Paevskaya. Zelensky’s victory came as a result of a vote by the Fund’s Council and its founders. In the message, as quoted BB.LV, says:

“The Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom annually awards one person for exceptional courage in upholding democratic values ​​and human rights. The award is given to public figures, journalists, cultural figures.

Among those who have been awarded the Boris Nemtsov Prize in different years are Lev Shlosberg and Alexei Navalny (politicians), civil activists Nadezhda Mityushkina, Konstantin Kotov, Ildar Dadin, Anastasia Shevchenko. The amount of the award is 10 thousand euros. Fund co-founder Zhanna Nemtsova said, writes dwthat her foundation condemns Russian aggression against Ukraine:

“Boris Nemtsov himself has always opposed the war with Ukraine. In 2014, he gathered numerous rallies in Moscow against this war. He understood that Putin was unleashing a war with Ukraine because he did not want the country to become part of Europe. I wish Ukraine a speedy victory and I consider this a patriotic position, because the victory of Ukraine is the defeat of the authoritarian Putin regime, this is the victory of the values ​​of humanism.”
