The initial test was positive and the sample was also sent to the microbiology laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for genomic confirmation of the virus. The ΕΟΔΥ statement says:

According to the available epidemiological data, the risk to the population is still low, as the disease is usually mild and characterized by relatively low transmissibility.

The man is in stable condition. His contacts are being traced to isolate them in accordance with medical protocol when a case of monkeypox is identified. Quarantine and self-control of people around the patient will last 21 days, writes cnn.gr.

monkeypox – a fairly rare infectious disease, it looks like smallpox, which humanity managed to cope with in 1980. The disease proceeds in a milder form, most of those infected recover within a few weeks. However, sometimes, in rare cases, it can be fatal.

Its symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and fatigue. Patients also develop skin rashes that often start on the face and spread to other parts of the body, including the genitals. The rash changes and goes through various stages before finally forming a scab, which later falls off.

According to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, there have been more than 1,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox in 29 countries to date.
