DiscoverEU: Thousands of young people will visit Europe for free

Around 70,000 young people will travel to Europe free of charge this year as part of the comprehensive Erasmus + DiscoverEU programme. The first beneficiaries have already been selected and another 35,000 tickets will be available for the upcoming round of applications in October.

The program offers young people tickets to travel across Europe by rail as part of a commitment made EU. The initiative of the European Union allows its 18-year-old residents (and also from some third countries) to travel within the states located on its territory. The goal is to get to know new people and European culture.

According to DiscoverEU, 165,000 tickets were available in six application rounds from 2018 to 2022, with most of them issued to German citizens. Of the 16,420 applicants who applied, 7,096 applicants from Germany received tickets, the largest number recorded. The second country was Italy, with 7013 applications, of which 4604 were approved.

As the organization points out, the number of approved applications depends on the total population of the country. However, in France, the overall approval rate was 100% as only 2,003 people applied and they were all accepted.
