100 thousand tons of Ukrainian wheat ended up in Syria

The Ukrainian Embassy in Beirut said that approximately 100,000 tons of Ukrainian wheat have been exported to Syria since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This is reported REUTERSposting on the site a photo with the caption: A Russian-flagged cargo ship Matros Pozynich sails along the Bosphorus on its way to the Mediterranean Sea in Istanbul, Turkey, May 22, 2022.

The Ukrainian embassy in Beirut calls Russian supplies to its ally Syria “criminal activity.” With world wheat prices above $400 per ton, the total value of grain exported from Ukraine to Syria is more than $40 million. The Embassy reports that one of the consignments taken out of Ukrainian storage facilities in the occupied areas was on board the Matros Pozinich ship (under the Russian flag).

According to the financial firm Refinitiv, the ship was loaded in Sevastopol. The indicated date of departure is May 19, the place of unloading is Syria. Satellite imagery on May 29 showed the ship docked at Syria’s main port of Latakia.
