The United States believes that the imposition of Russian passports on Ukrainians grossly violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
At the American embassy, as he writes “European Truth”, note that such actions are a proven tactic of Russia in the occupied territories. The embassy tweeted on Thursday:
“We join the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in condemning passportization in the temporarily occupied territories – the imposition of passports of the Russian Federation on citizens of Ukraine is a proven tactic for controlling Russia’s methods and a gross violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that illegal passportization in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as in Crimea and the temporarily occupied parts of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions is a gross violation of the norms and principles of international humanitarian law, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Earlier, on May 25, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on simplified procedure admission to Russian citizenship of residents of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine. Document published on official portal legal information. The decree comes into force on the day of its signing.
In April, Moscow announced its intention to establish full control over the Donbass and southern Ukraine in order to provide a land corridor to the annexed Crimea and gain access to Transnistria.
