Mitsotakis: Erdogan is wrong thinking I won’t defend Greek sovereignty

“If President Erdogan thinks that I will not defend the sovereignty and sovereign rights of Greece, and will not prove to an international audience that Turkey is behaving like a revisionist power, then he is mistaken,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday.

sending a strong message to the leadership of the neighboring country, which verbally attacked him even with direct insults.

Discussing Greek-Turkish relations with World Economic Forum President Borge Brende in Davos, Mitsotakis said:
“…We are neighbours [с Турцией]we always need to talk and we always want to keep the channels of communication open. We will never be the ones who won’t talk to their neighbors. On the other hand, if President Erdogan thinks that I will not defend the sovereignty and sovereign rights of Greece, and will not prove to an international audience that Turkey is behaving like a revisionist power, then he is mistaken.”

Mitsotakis went on to mention his meeting with Erdogan and that it was followed by an unprecedented number of Turkish military aircraft over the Greek islands a month later.

Stressing that such behavior was “completely unacceptable”, Mitsotakis said he “will raise this issue whenever he can, until Turkey changes its behavior.”
