Germany-US: 15-year LNG supply contract

Germany signs a contract for 15 years and will buy liquefied gas from the United States.

Germany’s largest electricity producer RWE AG is trying to phase out gas from Russia. American Sempra Energy announced yesterday that it will sell about 2.25 million tons of LNG to the company annually. The statement says:

“The terms provide for the negotiation and completion of a final 15-year contract for the supply and purchase of approximately 2.25 million tons of LNG per year.”

André Strake, CEO of RWE Supply & Trading, says that such a partnership will contribute to the diversification of the gas supply portfolio of RWE and Germany and thus increase the security of supply in Europe on a long-term basis.

Our publication reported that Russia has stopped gas supplies to three European countries – Poland, Bulgaria and Finland. They all refused the new rules – pay for it in rubles. The European Commission urged countries EU prepare action plans in case gas supplies from Russia stop.

Meanwhile, cutting off gas supplies from Russia to Greece will not be – all importing companies switched to payment in rubles. There are three (main) ones in the country – Mytilineos, DEPA Commerce, Prometheus Gas. Russian gas accounts for 45-55% of imports. Experts note that it will not be possible to replace it with other deliveries in the coming years.
