The Communist Party held a marathon "against the participation of Greece in the imperialist war"

On May 22, 2022, under the auspices of the Greek Communist Party, the 40th Peace Marathon was held, which started at 8 am from the Marathon Grave Hill, and finished in the evening at the Greek Ministry of Defense, where a large rally was organized.

The peace marathon sent a signal against the imperialist war, Greece’s participation in it and the country’s involvement in NATO’s dangerous plans, the website said. KKE.

The march was organized by the Hellenic Committee for Peace and Disarmament (EEDIE), which on the same day organized large anti-imperialist demonstrations in Thessaloniki, as well as in the cities of Peloponnese, Thessaly, Epirus, Crete, Macedonia and Thrace. Many demonstrations ended at the gates of military units and US-NATO bases. Thus, the demand of the people for the closure of military bases, non-participation of the country in the NATO war, as well as the desire not to take the side of one or another “robber” was emphasized.

The rally near the building of the Ministry of Defense was attended by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE Dimitris Koutsoumbaswho made the following statement to the media:

“Greece’s ever-increasing attachment to US and NATO plans, for which the government and other parties are responsible, is leading our people into even greater energy poverty, more specifically, a food crisis. Leads to even greater involvement of the country in the imperialist war and, of course, increases the risks for the sovereign rights of the country. From which side you do not take the notorious “Western values”, you can get dirty. The only solution, the only way out, the only hope is the concerted struggle of the peoples.”

As it became known on Tuesday, May 24, the Greek authorities, without informing the Parliament and the shadow Cabinet, put batch of artillery and shells to Ukraine. According to the opposition, this means that Greece actually declares war on Russia because, according to international law, a country that supplies weapons to the enemy during hostilities is equivalent to military ally of that party, with corresponding legal consequences. This means that if the conflict escalates, Greece risks becoming a target for Russian nuclear weapons.
