In Crimea, they are talking about changing the status of the Sea of Azov – Russia and the DPR have become its “owners”.
This was stated by Georgy Muradov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Crimean government and Permanent Representative to the President of the Russian Federation, reports “News”. According to Muradov, after the liberation of Kherson and the southern part of the Zaporozhye regions, and the determination of their status, Ukraine will lose access to the Sea of Azov, the publication quotes:
“The special operation allowed the DPR to reach Mariupol and liberate the southern part of the republic occupied by Ukrainian nationalists, thereby securing access to the Sea of Azov. So this is already a sea of our joint use with the DPR.
On May 20, State Duma deputy from the Republic of Crimea Mikhail Sheremet said that NATO’s plans to build military bases in the Sea of Azov were thwarted, as Ukraine lost control over access to a strategically important facility. And Kirill Stremousov, “deputy head of the military-civilian administration” of the Kherson region, said:
“There should be a military base of the Russian Federation in the Kherson region. We will ask for this. This should become a guarantee of security and is vital, and the entire population is interested in this.”
He previously claimed to write “Ukrainian Truth”that the return of the Kherson region to “Nazi”, as he says, Ukraine is out of the question.
The Kherson region came under the control of the Russian military in mid-March. On May 11, Kirill Stremousov announced that the authorities of the region plan to apply to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to include the region into the Russian Federation.
