Coffee in a plastic cup will become more bitter from June 1, as it will be charged a special fee of 8 cents in an environmental protection plan. The same goes for food delivery in plastic packaging.
From June 1, an environmental tax will be introduced, an additional fee for plastic bags, each plastic bottle of water or soft drink.
According to a law passed last summer, from June 1, 2022, a recycling fee will be levied on plastic bottles containing PVC when they are sold at any legal outlet. Payment is collected from consumers per unit of production.
The amount of the fee must be clearly and legibly indicated in sales documents before VAT (VAT) and reflected in the accounting records that companies selling these products are required to maintain. Also, in the places of sale of specific goods, in a place visible to the consumer, it should be indicated that the packaging is paid, and an additional fee is charged for it (and an indication of how much).
Plastic packaging businesses must submit a recycling fee declaration every quarter by the last day of the month following the period to which it relates. Until the completion of the application for filing an electronic declaration, the declaration will be submitted digitally through the Digital Reception and Request Management Application “My Requests”, which is located on the ΑΑΔΕ website (myaade.gov.gr).
For the period of first application, and specifically for income for June 2022, the declaration is submitted before August 1, 2022, while, according to the adopted law, the manufacturer of packaging that does not comply with the provisions is subject to a fine of 500 to 100,000 euros.
And this fee, as well as the corresponding fee for plastic bags, will be charged to the Hellenic Recycling Organization (EOAN) in order to be used solely to fund recycling activities.
In particular, the environmental fee is levied on the following plastic products:
1) Drink glasses including lids and stoppers.
2) Food containers, with or without a lid, in which food is placed and which are intended for immediate consumption of the product on site or outside the store and are usually served in a disposable container, a cup. Exceptions are beverage containers, plates, bags and wrappers.
Please note that this rule does not apply to beverage cups or food containers for products sold by retailers in packaging that not filled at the point of salesuch as yogurt cups and dessert cups. This also does not apply to beverage cups or food containers, sold by retailers under license.
However, if the consumer brings his own non-plastic container, then the company is obliged to pour coffee into this container (mug) without paying the above fee.
