The highest paved road in Greece

The rich network of mountain roads in Greece has a unique track that you can drive your car at an altitude of 1904 meters above sea level.

Augenas Baru (Αυχένας του Μπάρου) is the highest paved road in the country, because in some places the height of the pass can exceed 1900 meters. A path cut through the mountains connects Thessaly with Epirus.

The road existed for a long time, used by farmers and shepherds. However, in 2014 it was completely paved and is now a tourist attraction in southern Pindos.

As you move along the mountain route, with an increase in height, it is breathtaking. Before you opens a magnificent panorama of the peaks of Peristeri and Kakarditsa, located at an altitude of 2294 meters and 2429 meters respectively.

The pristine nature in these places is unique, and every turn of the road opens up a new visual surprise for you – from imposing cliffs to sheer abysses.

The route is suitable for passing when the weather in the area is mild without snowfalls. Otherwise, you may not have time to overcome it and will be forced to turn off halfway.
