The US president has made European unification a top priority against a Russian invasion of Ukraine, while Turkey is raising objections, asking Sweden to stop supporting Kurdish militants and lift its ban on arms sales to Ankara.

Without nuclear weapons and NATO bases
Even after accession, Finland does not want NATO to station nuclear weapons or military bases on its territory, Finnish Prime Minister Sana Marin said in an interview with an Italian newspaper on Thursday. Marin, who is in Rome to meet with her Italian counterpart Mario Draghi, also said that she believes the issue of Ankara’s resistance can be resolved through dialogue:
“I think it is important at this stage to remain calm, to negotiate with Turkey and all other member states, answering any questions that may arise and correcting any misunderstandings.”
She also added that the issue of developing nuclear weapons or opening bases in Finland was not part of the Helsinki talks on membership in a military alliance. Recall, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson also said that her country does not want permanent NATO bases or nuclear weapons on its territory.

The Russian Foreign Ministry is convinced that “the goal of NATO (…) is clear – to continue expanding towards the borders of Russia, to create another flank for a military threat to our country. But why should Finland turn its territory into a line of military confrontation with the Russian Federation, while losing independence in making their own decisions, history will judge,” the message reads.
