The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia summoned the Russian ambassador after the words of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova regarding the Estonian Prime Minister.
According to RIA News, referring to the press service of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, Russian Ambassador to Estonia Vladimir Lipaev was summoned to the department because of the statements of Maria Zakharova. Her post on the social network was perceived as a “brute attack” on Kaya Kallas, the prime minister of the republic.
In the Telegram channel, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry reminded her subscribers that the great-grandfather of the current Estonian prime minister, Eduard Alver, was the head of the nationalist paramilitary formation Defense League. Many former members of this formation provided services to the Nazi army during the German occupation of Estonia, and were also involved in the mass extermination of Jews in the country:
“Strong family traditions of the beacons of democracy, denying neo-Nazism in Ukraine”.
The press service of the Estonian Foreign Ministry says:
“Vice-Chancellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rein Tammsaar, who met with the Russian ambassador, did not consider it necessary to comment on the content of the statement, but called on Russian representatives to refrain from non-diplomatic personal attacks against Estonian politicians, to be polite, study history more closely and immediately stop the aggression against Ukraine.”
