UNICEF: 100 Ukrainian children died in April alone


Hundreds of children died in Ukraine due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, UNICEF reports – 100 child deaths were recorded in April alone.

An even greater number of children were injured, said in UN Security Council 12 March Omar Abdi, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director:

“In the last month alone, the UN has confirmed that about 100 children have been killed, and we believe the actual numbers are much higher. … More children have been injured and faced serious violations of their rights, millions have been displaced. The war in Ukraine is like and all wars are a crisis of child protection and children’s rights.”

Abdi said that Ukrainian schools under fire and are used for military purposes:

“As of last week, at least 15 of the 89 UNICEF-supported schools in eastern Ukraine have been damaged or destroyed since the start of the war. Hundreds of schools across the country have been hit by heavy artillery, airstrikes and other explosive weapons in communities.”

The number of victims among children from careless handling of ammunition is also growing. On May 8, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a 12-year-old boy died due to a Russian shell and became the sixth on the scary list only in this region.
