Germany began to pay Russia for gas in rubles

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said that the German gas company VNG had already transferred euros to Gazprombank for conversion into rubles and subsequent payment for gas. He announced this at a press conference. Reuters.

“No one has ever said whether ruble payments violate the sanctions. This is such a “grey zone”. Germany, the largest gas importer, has already paid in rubles, and most importers have opened accounts in rubles,” the politician said.

According to him, Moscow’s demand for ruble payments will not lead to interruptions in supplies.

Earlier it was reported that Germany will not pay for Russian gas in rubles, it refuses to pay for the new scheme and does not plan to use this mechanism in the future. About it declared German Finance Minister Christian Lindner.

He stressed that he was addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin to outline Germany’s position on this issue.

Meanwhile, Germany denied that it could activate the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to compensate for the reduction in gas supplies through Ukraine. This was stated by the speaker of the Ministry of Energy of Germany Annika Eingorn, reports AP.
