The Russian Ambassador in Athens laid a wreath at the monument to Soviet soldiers

On Victory Day, Andrei Maslov, Russian Ambassador to Greece, and Major General Alexander Prikhodko, Defense Attache, laid wreaths and flowers at the monument to Soviet soldiers who died for the freedom and independence of Greece, on Syngrou Avenue in Athens (Kallithea).

The diplomat said that on Sunday, May 8, at the municipal cemetery in the city of Chania, Crete, flowers were laid at the monument to 33 Soviet liberators who gave their lives for the liberation of the island. He announced:

General Prikhodko said that the Russian military visited three veterans of the Great Patriotic War on the eve of Victory Day: they conveyed congratulations from Russian President Vladimir Putin and memorable gifts to them. On May 9, employees of the military attache laid wreaths at the grave of Soviet soldier Nikolai Shevel at the allied cemetery in Paleo Faliro in Athens. Flowers will also be laid on the graves of the fallen and deceased war veterans.

Representatives of public organizations and ordinary citizens carried flowers to the monument on Singru Avenue in the morning. In the Athenian district of Kallithea, in the square near the monument to the Soviet soldier, rally was helddedicated to Victory Day. After the end of the solemn part, a concert took place.
